Anyway, I'm leaving Los Angeles tonight for 2 days of out-of-state election volunteering, so I hope to be able to find a solution when I'm back Wed/Thurs. I don't even know what an error message looks like in Windows Mail. Whereas, with IMAP, Windows Mail was functioning immediately. I'd describe it as "nothing appearing to happen." I waited several minutes, as well as deleting and re-adding the POP "tester gmail" to Windows Mail 3 times. With emails I was to receive, the Windows Mail inbox simply sat empty (but when it was configured for IMAP, I received emails). I don't have enough experience with Windows Mail to know if an error message typically pops up. With Windows Mail configured as POP, the email I tried to send just sat in the Outbox, and no error message was generated to my knowledge. This was my first time trying Windows Mail. At least then you would know the settings are correct and you can move-onto some other piece of the puzzle.

Since you are using this account as POP3, have you tried proper settings in a different email client? Pretty sure Windows-10 has a free one called Mail. Have you tried deleting the account from Outlook and re-creating it?ĭo you understand that the online Settings at I mentioned are separate for each Gmail account ? I'm not much for repeating myself in forum posts. I still get the feeling you are not reading closely.

I think the answer is there, and if not, I can help you get it. I understand your frustration, but after you calm down, I suggest you read my posts closer or even print them out. I have other relevant experience and credentials. Pretty sure I can help you as we have the exact same config/services (using Outlook 2016 with free gmail as POP3).

Plus, they would have to know something beyond what you and I already tried/posted. Someone else might drop into this thread, but I kinda doubt it. Maybe Gmail has a forum, but I think Google telephone based support is only for paid G-Suite customers. This doesn't even appear to be an Outlook problem. However, Outlook will NOT accept my password for the SMTP server. Upon restart, the "Enter your user name and password for the following server" message pops up once for the server, and when I hit "OK," Outlook accepts my password, and the error ceases. I am able to receive email when I restart my Outlook. I tried ports 25 and 587 today, but no luck. For the past several years, Outlook SMTP has been set to port 465 (SSL/TLS) with no problems. This time, I've tried port changes, and I can see on support forums that other people have had similar problems over the last few months. I've assumed something was going on with Google, they resolved it, and my problem ceases.) (In the past, when I've received this pop up, I've spent hours troubleshooting, and then 1 or 2 days later, the pop ups eventually cease on their own. The "Enter your user name and password for the following server" message keeps popping up for the server. My primary email is set up as POP/SMTP, and as of approximately 3 days ago, I can no longer send email from Outlook. My back-up Gmail is set up as an IMAP/SMTP account, and it's working fine (no jinx).
